In November of 2024, we had the idea of opening a Homeschool Resource Center in Central Illinois because we saw a need wanted to see it filled. We really had no clue of the journey we were starting, but we knew God would lead us and bless this mission.
Here we are, 10 months later, and, while it may seem on the outside that not much has happened, we've truly accomplished so much to make that dream into a reality! Starting something of this magnitude doesn't happen overnight as there are a lot of things that occur behind the scenes. There was paperwork, planning, meetings, fundraising, more meetings, and lots of prayer along the way. At times, progress slowed or felt stagnant, but never stopped entirely. I realize that from the outside, it may have seemed like it wasn't going to happen due to our prolonged silence online. We just felt like we couldn't say too much until we knew what we were doing moving forward.
Well, I am please to announce that big things are finally happening!
The Bookstore
The Goodfield Community Library has graciously allocated space for us to open our curriculum bookstore. The Library is located on 111 Fisk St. In Goodfield, IL just off the interstate! We don't have a specific opening date as we are still working on setting up the space, but we will spread the word as soon as that's decided.
The curriculum bookstore will be stocked with a wide variety of used curriculum that has been generously donated to the IL HRC. Some of our inventory includes:
Abeka
Bob Jones University
Christian Light Education
Rod & Staff
Apologia
Saxon Math
Greenleaf Press
Masterbooks
Evan-Moor
And much more!
This bookstore excites us for many reasons. First, we love that we can help homeschool families save money through our affordably priced curriculum. This will also give families the opportunity to see curriculum options in person. I don't know about you, but I've wasted way too much money buying curriculum that looked good online, but wasn't what I wanted when I saw it in person! Finally, we plan to provide consultations from moms who have used the curriculum and can give unbiased advise on what it's like.
Help Needed
We do have some immediate needs for moving forward:
Treasurer
We are still looking for a Treasurer to join the board. More information on that position can be found here: https://www.illinoishrc.com/treasurer
Bookshelves

The Goodfield Community Library has provided us with some bookshelves, but we could use more. We have about 21 linear feet of wall space where we could put tall shelves and then we would like some shorter shelves for the middle of the area.
For donations, please contact Rebekah Schwind at (309) 339-7713 or email us at info@illinoishrc.com
Here is the space we'll be using:

Looking ahead...
Once we have things set up, we'll have lots of opportunities for volunteer help including in-person and remote options. Those opportunities will include:
Logging inventory online
Bookstore cashier
Helping with events
Marketing
The benefits the IL HRC will bring to families in Central Illinois are fun to think about, but they will only be possible with the help of the community. Volunteer work for the IL HRC will provide you with the satisfaction of knowing you're making a difference.
