Donate or Sell

Donate - Drop off your books/curriculum anytime by setting them inside the front door of the Goodfield Community Library marked with "IL HRC".

Sell - Bring in gently used homeschool curriculum and receive cash on the spot (limit $25 per customer per week)

How to sell:

  1. Bring it in — Drop off your books and materials during shop hours (Tuesdays from 9-4). No appointment needed.

  2. We review — We quickly check condition and look up the retail price (MSRP).

  3. Get cash - you receive cash for your books.

How to donate:

  1. Drop off your materials anytime in the front doors of the Goodfield Community Library clearly marked "IL HRC" so we know it's for us and not the library.

  2. Whatever we don't keep, we'll donate to another organization.

What We Accept

Yes: Recent editions of popular homeschool curriculum (Abeka, BJU Press, Notgrass, Apologia, IEW, Saxon, Math‑U‑See, Singapore, etc.), teacher guides, student texts with unused consumable pages, literature sets, high‑demand electives.

Not accepting at this time: Outdated editions, items with heavy writing, torn/missing pages, damaged bindings, incomplete sets, photocopies, or materials with water/smoke damage.

Tip: If you’re unsure, bring it—our team will sort and advise. You may choose donation for anything we can’t credit.

Quick Drop‑Off Checklist

  • Books are clean and free of sticky notes, food spills, or smoke odors.

  • Consumables (workbooks) are unused—or only lightly used if you’re okay with the lower Fair tier.

  • Sets are kept together (teacher + student + tests/keys) if possible.

We reserve the right to adjust rates during special events or for specialty/oversized items, boxed sets, or low‑demand titles. We’ll always tell you the credit amount before proceeding.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need an appointment?
Nope! Walk‑ins are welcome during bookstore hours. Large drop‑offs? Feel free to call ahead.

Is there a limit to how much you'll buy?

We can only pay each patron $25 per visit for consigned books at this time. If you bring more than the value of that, you may donate it or take it home.

How many items can I bring?
Bring a bag or a trunk‑load—we’re happy to help. Very large drop‑offs may take extra time to process. There is a limit of $25 cash per customer per week.

How do you determine retail price (MSRP)?
We reference publisher listings and trusted databases. If an official MSRP isn’t available, we use a standard value based on edition and current market demand.

What if I disagree with the condition you assigned?
We’re glad to walk through our criteria and take a second look. Final condition assignment is at ILHRC’s discretion.

Can I donate items instead of receiving credit?
Absolutely. You can mark items as donation and leave them inside the front doors.

What happens to books the IL HRC doesn't need?

We'll either donate them to the Goodfield Community Library or another organization.

Fine Print (Policy Summary)

  • ILHRC may decline items due to condition, edition, or low demand.

  • Once accepted, items become the property of ILHRC and may be priced at our discretion.

  • Cash is issued at intake. If purchasing books during your visit, the amount will be deducted from your buy-back total.

  • Rates, acceptance criteria, and limits may change during special promotions or peak seasons.
