Treasurer

Position Overview

Join our friendly Board of Directors as our volunteer Treasurer! This important role helps keep IL HRC financially healthy so we can focus on what we do best - supporting homeschool families in Central Illinois.

You'll be part of a collaborative team that's passionate about providing Christian resources and building community for families just like yours. We're looking for someone who enjoys working with numbers and wants to make a real difference in Christian education.

Your Main Responsibilities

Keep Our Finances Organized

  • Help manage IL HRC's funds and financial records

  • Work with our board-approved bank accounts

  • Track donations and expenses (we'll show you our systems!)

Join Our Monthly Team Meetings

  • Attend our relaxed monthly board meetings

  • Share simple financial updates with the team

  • Be part of planning and decision-making

Create Easy-to-Understand Reports

  • Prepare basic financial summaries for the board

  • Help with our annual financial review

  • Keep records organized and accessible

Support Our Mission

  • Help with budget planning (don't worry, we'll guide you!)

  • Assist with tracking fundraising efforts

  • Ensure we're making wise financial decisions

What We're Looking For

Helpful Experience

  • Some background with finances, bookkeeping, or accounting (even personal experience counts!)

  • Good organizational skills and attention to detail

  • Comfort with basic computer tasks

  • Heart for Christian education and homeschool families

Personal Qualities

  • Agreement with our Statement of Faith (we'll share this with you)

  • Willingness to complete a simple background check (standard for all our volunteers)

  • Reliable and committed to helping our mission

  • Good communication skills for working with our friendly board

Nice to Have (But Not Required!)

  • Experience with non-profit finances

  • Familiarity with accounting software like QuickBooks

  • Understanding of tax-exempt organizations

Important Note: This is a volunteer position - no salary, but lots of satisfaction from serving others!

Time Commitment

  • One monthly board meeting (usually 2-3 hours, often in the evening)

  • Annual meeting in June

  • Some financial tasks throughout the month (you choose when to do them)

  • About 5-10 hours total per month
